The Rickert and Ringholz Musical Instruments Blog

Angel_with_lyre_top This is the blog for Rickert & Ringholz Musical Instruments.

Our online store (www.fiddleandbowstore.com) is not a typical online mega-store, but a shop dedicated to serving the needs of practicioners of the fiddle discipline, especially Scottish Highland, Cape Breton, Irish, Old Time, Historic and Alternative styles. We sell carefully chosen, often hard-to-find instruments, bows, and other accoutrements for serious musicians.

As much fun as looking is, t's more fun to get a great deal on a great instrument

Yesterday, the first day of our sale, there was lots of happiness to go around...happy customers who got great deals on baritone fiddles and pochettes and happy us. Today, mostly window shoppers. What will it take to put a new fiddle in your hands? :-) We REALLY want to help!

We've got a lot of other fiddles that are not even listed in our catalog...saving them for the upcoming festivals. If there is something are looking for, we probably either have it or can get it for you.

BIG SALE on our Most Popular Instruments and Accessories

Everybody has money issues. You've got 'em and so do we. This is a time of year when it is difficult to sell ANYTHING, especially "non-essentials" like cool musical instruments. I know that many of you have been looking for a way to afford some our most expensive instruments. Well, now is the time. Read on:

We've temporarily cut prices so low on some of our most popular instruments and some other accessories that you may not believe what you see. For example, you can now get a Type II Octave Fiddle for $2,400, which is about $1,000 off of the normal price. We're selling our new Adventurer Travel Fiddles for $450 (ALMOST HALF PRICE).

We are so keen to stimulate some action that we will even consider crazy things like half down and 60 days to pay the balance. You have to call us (404-713-3750) about this and have good credit.

Anyway, if we have something that you want and have not been able to afford, it's pretty much now or never, so get on over to www.fiddleandbowstore.com NOW!. The next three buyers of a Type II Octave or Cradle of Harmony Octave or  will get a free standard fiddle.

The Mile High Club

There is now a new version, unwittingly established by our friend Dr. Jerry Everard--the Mile High Pochette Fiddle Club. See his posting on his blog http://fourstrings.wordpress.com/ to find out more.

Pochetteplane_2

We wish to stress that we DO NOT condone ANY illegal or dangerous use of a pochette, or any fiddle for that matter. That being said, we at Rickert and Ringholz are keen to be wowed by photos and videos. We do not recommend playing your pochette on a plane like Jerry did--we do not want to see your photos and videos on CNN!

Please note that the rules may change, as we have not checked with Jerry on any of this. It's his idea, so stay tuned for the official rules for membership in the Mile  High Pochette Fiddle Club.

While we have your attention, just a shameless reminder that you can buy great pochettes at www.fiddleandbowstore.com.

Atlanta Pipe Band Wins at Loch Norman

The Atlanta Pipe Band is particularly important to me, as I played fiddle as part of their most recent annual fund raising concert. You want to hear what a pipe band should sound like, see their recent win at the Loch Norman Highland Games.

Now selling some stuff on www.Etsy.com

See link to www.etsy.com (seller: RickertMusical) on 'My Other Accounts' on the left of the screen. Why would we sell on another online store besides www.FiddleandBowStore.com? We are simply trying to expand our presence on the web.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with our www.FiddleandBowStore.com customers. You are the reason we get up in the morning to design and build the best baritone (octave) violins and backpacker pochettes available anywhere.

Rare Photos of Twin Travel Master Pochettes Together

We finished two Travel Masters on the same day. Here are some photos, showing the shoulder rest "wings" both open and retracted. Our new heavy duty short case is in some of the pictures. Most people who buy our pochettes and travel violins/fiddles opt for a short case and to carry their bow(s) in a separate bow case.

As with most of our instruments, you can see them played and hear them on YouTube (Click to see and hear them now). Of course, you place an order for one by going to www.FiddleandBowStore.com.

As usual clicking on any of the photos below displays a larger view.

Our promotional pricing on the new Adventurer Travel Violin ends on May 2. These instruments are already selling quite well and they have not even gone into full production. Two reasons to purchase today:

  1. Price will go from $650 to $825
  2. The longer you wait, the further down on the waiting list you will be

These instruments will be our first that are sold through other dealers and online stores, but for now, you can only buy them at www.FiddleandBowStore.com.

Promotional on Baritone Fiddles Now Over

Our offer of a FREE HIGH-END MEISEL VIOLIN with the purchase of either a Type II Octave Violin or Type II Cradle of Harmony ended on FRIDAY 4/25.

Special Ed and the Short Bus Going for the Cradle of Harmony Baritone Fiddle

See our posting about how you can get one of our instruments for free. We are happy to announce that those bad boys of Alternative Old Time, Special Ed and the Short Bus, are going for the big money. If they get at least a Third Place in a juried fiddle competition (presumably in the Old Time Band category), they get one of our best instruments, the Octave Violin Cradle of Hamony.

Want to get a free instrument from us?

You can get one of several of our instruments for free (The Adventurer Travel Violin, the Baritone Type I, the Baritone Type II or the Baritone 'Cradle of Harmony'...sorry, the Travel Master is not loud enough for stage performance). You can find out about each of these instruments at www.FiddleandBowStore.com.

We're going to refine the rules, but the critical points are:

  • You have to be pretty good.
  • You have to play the instrument in a major juried fiddle competition (e.g. Galax, Hoppin' John, Cliff Top, Athens, AL or any of the Scottish Highland games that have a juried fiddle competition (only the major ones do).
  • Your performance can be solo, solo with accompaniment, duet (two fiddles), or as part of a band (BUT WE'VE GOT TO HEAR THE FIDDLE)
  • You have to make it to the semi-finals for the Adventurer or the Baritone Type I
  • You have to get at least a third place win for either the Baritone Type II or the Baritone 'Cradle of Harmony'
  • We will consider an exception to the semi-finals or third place rule if you are disqualified for and otherwise outstanding performance, such as that by Special Ed and the Short Bus at Galax last year...Special Ed, et. al. had one of the best DQs I've ever seen and they would have qualified (see their Galax second night performance on YouTube).
  • You must supply high-quality video with stereo audio for use on YouTube (of course, we get the rights to the video and audio): This is critical--no video/audio or bad video/audio and the deal if off!

These rules are asking a lot of you, but it's a way for you to aquire an instrument ranging in price from $700 to $3,500). We'll have more details ASAP: Check the blog regularly.

If you think you are up to this, call us at (404) 713-3750 or email: drickert@bellsouth.net.
